================================================== Hollow Pointers and Jacketed Hollow Pointers by Robert LaThanh of PearlMagik http://www.pearlmagik.com/ (C) Copyright 2000 PearlMagik, All Rights Reserved ================================================== ==== Introduction ==== I just thought it would be neat to have pointers that were hollow, so I made some. Most were just modified from built-in cursors. I especially think the hourglasses look much cooler with transparency, I don't understand why they aren't like that in the first place. There are two sets of cursors, Hollow Pointers (HP) and Jacketed Hollow Pointers (JHP). The HP cursors are hollow cursors with inverted borders. The JHP cursors are hollow cursors with a double gray-black border. ==== License Information ==== These pointers are free to use and distribute. Also, feel free to modify and distribute them. You could claim them as your own work but that'd be lying now, wouldn't it? Your moral values will guide your actions =) ==== Hollow Pointers ==== The majority of these cursors are created with a inverted-border. That is, the outline of the cursor (almost) always take a color that is opposite of what's under it. This set has two downsides: (1) Most cursors do not cast a shadow (for Microsoft Windows 2000(TM) users) (2) Some cursors will disappear when over a certain shade of gray. pm_hp_arrow.cur Normal Select: Your standard issue arrow pm_hp_help.cur Help Select: Arrow with question mark pm_hp_wait.cur Working: Arrow with hourglass pm_hp_busy.cur Busy: Hourglass pm_hp_cross.cur Precision Select: Crosshairs pm_hp_beam.cur Text Select: I-Beam with crossbar pm_hp_pen.cur Handwriting: A pen pm_hp_no.cur Unavailable: When you can't use your mouse pm_hp_lsns.cur Vertical (North/South) resize pm_hp_lswe.cur Horizontal (West/East) resize pm_hp_lsnwse.cur Diagonal 1 (\) resize pm_hp_lsnesw.cur Diagonal 2 (/) resize pm_hp_move.cur Move: When moving windows pm_hp_up.cur Alternate Select: Vertical Arrow pm_hp_hand.cur Link Select: The famous Internet hand, now transparent! ==== Jacketed Hollow Pointers ==== This set was designed to never disappear over any background. They have a light-gray inner-layer, black outer-layer, and of course a hollow center. Because of the extra layer, these pointers are slightly larger than the standard pointers. It isn't complete, though; it doesn't contain a cursor of each type, just the most-used ones. These are also pointer shadow compatible. The pointers in this set have the same descriptions as the Hollow Pointers. The pointers that aren't in this set can be substituted by those in the other set, especially those that wouldn't be different anyway (Busy, Precision Select, Text Select, etc). pm_jhp_arrow.cur Normal Select pm_jhp_help.cur Help Select pm_jhp_wait.cur Working pm_jhp_up.cur Alternate Select pm_jhp_hand.cur Link Select ==== System Requirements ==== Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/etc (I don't know if any other operating systems support this .cur format, but if they do, then I guess these should work there, too.) ==== Installation ==== 1: Extract the cursor files to a location on your hard-drive of your choice. You can put them with the rest of Windows' cursors which is most likely C:\Windows\cursors\ (for Win9x/ME) or C:\WinNT\cursors\ (for WinNT/2000) 2: Open up your Mouse Properties: [Start]->Settings->Control Panel, Mouse Properties) and click on the Poiners tab. 3: Depending on which set you chose, double-click (or click once, then click on [Browse] on each cursor, browse to the location you extracted them to, and choose the appropriate one. 4: When you're done, you can save the scheme by clicking on [Save As...], that way you can switch to and from the set easily. 5: Click [OK] and your pointers will take effect.
