The life which is unexamined is not worth living~Socrates *Monday, March 22, 2004* Ah, Miss Sunshine. i loved those Mr. Happy books. How can you look at Miss Sunshine and not smile?? I'm pretty excited about the Zig Zigglar and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani business seminar!! Jessica Lynch is going to be a guest speaker...and the whole thing is only $5. Its funny. I'm realizing that I'm entering into a new phase of life. What used to be exciting concerts is now replaced with exciting business speakers. God, I can't wait for this thing. I came up with a spectacular epiphany the other day. I've found a technique to give us leverage over our many fears, a technique that many ppl our age can relate to. A bunch of us were finishing up an Anthony Robbins Personal Power 2 meeting and someone starts talking about his gamer friends-u kno the type...5+ hours in front of the tv or computer playing games. Heck, we've all played Blizzard games day and night. Anyway the point is..think about RPG games like Final Fantasy Online or Everquest type games. The gamer always projects themselves as the main character, fighting battles against dragons and big bossses. The gamer spends hours, works hard at developing his online self and gains experienc points, levels, builds strength, dexterity, and other abilities. And when he gets to the end of a level and has to kill the boss to move on, he'll spends hours trying and trying again to beat that big boss. The first time he dies, he'll try again, changing nothing, just to see if for any reason he can outdo his first try. Then he'll die again and he'll change something slightly, perhaps a different weapon, cast different spells. Now if it was a realllllly hard boss, he'll prob die again and then he'll either go back to level some more and become stronger or try again with a different tactic. Now in the game of life, most people as they are trying to level and grow, will encounter obstacles. They will always fail trying something new for the first time and then something absurd happens. As we grow older, we learn to fear failure and and then many of us allow ourselves to squash any pre-existing notion that we can accomplish what we set out to do. How long did we give ourselves to learn how to walk? As long as it takes. In real life, people will say to themselves and others around them that i can't because ...the boss is too hard, too big, too strong, or i'm too small, i don't have the best weapons, i'm not smart enough, and ALL the reasons why they can't beat the game. In any case we should ask how can I do this? But I digress... Now take a step back and see yourself as if you were in a game. Where are you going (personal mission statement)? What are your tasks (set goals)? Are you wandering aimlessly in your game or doing the same routine over and over? Look at your exp bar and all your stats. Open up your inventory and see your college degree and various awards you've won. If we can take the same gaming ethic into our lives, we can accomplish anything! I used this a couple times and it works pretty well. When i go to the gym i imagine myself gaining exp in strength and vitality and mana (ok fine..maybe not mana power), sometimes dexterity and it drives me. And if i'm listening to an audio tape of some sort and learning something I'll get exp in intelligence. I'll get charisma points every time i engage in a conversation with a stranger. And when I'm scared to do something like make an important phone call I'll picture myself as part of this game and after i do the task, i'll gain exp. I love it. I've found a way to leverage my imagination to fight my obstacles and a fun way to drive myself in beating this game of life. And the best thing about this is, it applies to everything and everyone as long as you have an imagination. Hy BRi Di On: bEbE 9 8 0 has
